We first learn about the green light at the beginning of the novel where Nick sees Gatsby reaching out towards the green light that is managed by Daisy. The green light represents all of Gatsby's dreams and by reaching out to the light Gatsby is indicating that he is reaching for his true dream, Daisy. In the beginning of chapter eight Gatsby says "I waited, and about four o'clock she came to the window and stood there for a minute and then turned out the light"(147). At this moment Gatsby realizes that he has no hope with Daisy and she reciprocates by turning off the light. This proves that Daisy no longer wants a life with Gatsby.

“I’m going to drain the pool today, Mr. Gatsby. Leaves’ll start falling pretty soon, and then there’s always trouble with the pipes.” “Don’t do it to-day.” Gatsby answered. He turned to me apologetically. “You know, old sport, I’ve never used that pool all summer?”(153)
Gatsby’s pool represents all of his dreams. He wanted to use the pool one last time before it gets drain, so leaves would not get into the pipes. That represents he still has the desire for luxury and still had the dream of achieving it. The drainage of the pool represents Gatsby’s entire dream of luxury diminishing. When Gatsby says he had not used the pool all summer, it means he never realized his dream. When he gets murdered in the pool, it represents that he was trapped because of his dreams.

“Standing behind him, Michaelis saw with a shock that he was looking at the eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg, which had just emerged, pale and enormous, from the dissolving night. (159-160)
The eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg represent God in Mr.Wilson’s eyes when it illuminated. The eyes represent the loss of spiritual values and morals, so when Mr.Wilson looks into it, he completely changes. The eyes also represent the emptiness of the American Dream. The American Dream only makes a few people rich, while majority of people will be devoured by the dream.

"He must have looked up at an unfamiliar sky through the frightening leaves and shivered as he found what a grotesque thing a rose is and how raw the sunlight was upon the scarcely created grass. A new world, material without being real, where poor ghosts, breathing dreams like air, drifted fortuitously about...like that ashen, fantastic figure gliding toward him through the amorphous trees" (161)
The rose represents beauty and treasure but at the same time it has thorns that can prick you and hurt you. This relates to how Gatsby loves daisy. Gatsby puts on quite a show for Daisy because she is such a beautiful person and has so much in common with Gatsby but in the end she crushes Gatsby's dreams and it leaves him thinking how much of a waste his efforts were to impress Daisy.

"The touch of a cluster of leaves revolved it slowly, tracing, like the leg of transit, a thin red circle in the water."(162)
The colour red is a very significant colour in chapter eight. As red is very beautiful, it also gives the meaning of revenge. The "red circle in the water" is the blood from Gatsby when Mr. Wilson shoots him in the marble pool. This shows that the revenge has been done to an assumed killer.
